Admissions criteria

Criteria for candidates with "new" Polish maturity exam (issued after 2005)

Admission shall include the Matura certificate competition – the results of the subjects indicated below, which are taken as part of the Matura examination in the written part, shall be considered:

• The result of the basic level exam shall be multiplied by the conversion factor of 0.5 or the extended level by the conversion factor of 1 and then by the subject weight.
• If a candidate has taken a subject at the Matura exam at both levels, the result from the level which is more favourable to the candidate after applying the conversion factor and weighting shall be considered. The same subject may be included twice in the admission process, provided that the candidate has passed it at two different levels, i.e., basic and extended.
• The score of the bilingual exam from the modern foreign language shall be converted to the score at the extended level by multiplying it by 4/3; The maximum result from the extended level shall not exceed 100% (if higher, the final value shall be 100%).
• Admission for studies shall be determined by the place on the ranking list created based on the sum of points obtained.
• The admission process for German Studies shall be conducted within the limits of admissions adopted by the Senate of the University. The candidate may indicate in the IRK system a maximum of two majors in which they are interested at the registration for a study programme. The indication of a major shall not be equivalent to being admitted for a particular major. The approved admission limit for the study programme shall be divided into individual majors mentioned above. The number of places for a particular major shall be determined by the Faculty. The final allocation shall be made according to the ranking list of those admitted to the German Studies (i.e., those who have obtained the higher number of points shall have priority in the selection of major, and those who have received the lower number of points shall be assigned to the majors where places are available). It is also stipulated that for the following majors: German Studies: Intercultural Communications in Business, Translation with foreign languages and Teacher Training Programme – knowledge of the German language shall be required.

• For majors in: German Studies: German Language – Elementary Level (A1-B2 and German Studies: Swedish —  knowledge of the German language shall not be required.

• A given major shall be launched with the number of candidates required to form one class group.

Foreign baccalaureate (method of converting grades from certificates obtained abroad shall be specified in a relevant Annexe to the Resolution of the Senate).

In the case of candidates – Polish citizens who have completed secondary school abroad or foreigners – who:

• do not have a grade for the Polish language on their secondary school leaving certificate – a grade in the official language of the country in which the candidate has obtained a document entitling the candidate to apply for higher education shall be considered instead of a grade for the Polish language. The result obtained under the maturity exam shall be converted according to the rules specified for the conversion of grades from certificates obtained abroad at the level extended according to the "new Matura” exam;
• have a maturity certificate covering the result of a modern foreign language – the result obtained under the baccalaureate exam shall be converted according to the rules specified for the conversion of grades from certificates obtained abroad at the level extended according to the "new Matura” exam;
• do not have a maturity certificate covering the result of a modern foreign language – an examination in a modern foreign language shall be admissible. The written examination shall correspond to the level of the Matura exam from the modern language at the extended level. The exam results expressed as percentages on a scale of 30% to 100% shall be converted into ranking points according to the rules for candidates with the "new Matura” exam.
• Foreign applicants shall also be required to present a certificate attesting their knowledge of Polish at a proficiency level of at least B2 issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language. In the absence of a certificate confirming the knowledge of the Polish language, candidates – foreigners take the exam in the Polish language.

"Old" Polish maturity exam

In the case of the candidates who took the “old” Polish maturity exam, the results of particular subjects taken orally or in writing (specified in the relevant programme admission criteria for candidates who passed the “new” Polish maturity exam), placed on the certificate of secondary education and certificate issued by Regional Examinations Board, are taken into consideration.

The method of converting results of the Polish maturity exam is adjusted to the evaluation system for the candidates who took the “new” Polish maturity exam.

The maturity exam grades will be converted to percentage points as follows:

In the case when there are programme entrance exams, both the results of these exams and the results of maturity exams are taken into consideration.

International Baccalaureate

The admission rules applying to candidates with the new Matura certificate (“nowa matura”) also apply to candidates with the international Matura – the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, issued by the International Baccalaureate foundation headquartered in Geneva. The results from the IB diploma will be converted into the “nowa matura” scale in the following way

• Percentage in the written IB Matura exam at the basic level (SL) is converted to points as follows: 1% = 1 points.
• Percentage in the written IB Matura exam at the advanced level (HL) is converted to points as follows: 1% = 1.5 points.

In case the candidate does not submit the International Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the IB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the IB diploma immediately after its reception.

European Baccalaureate

The candidate who obtained the European Baccalaureate diploma, issued by European Schools in accordance to the Luxemburg Convention of 21 June 1994 about the European School status, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of European Baccalaureate are treated as results of the extended “new” Polish maturity exams and are calculated according to the following indicators:

 In case the candidate does not submit the European Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the EB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the EB diploma immediately after its reception.
